What is Allergic Rhinitis?

Allergic Rhinitis is a symptomatic disorder of the nose induced after allergen exposure due to an IgE-mediated inflammation of membranes lining the nose. It is clinically defined as a symptomatic condition with four major symptoms as anterior or posterior rhinorrhoea, sneezing, nasal itching & nasal congestion.

  • Dental problems (overbite): Caused by excessive breathing through the mouth.

  • wood dust, flour dust and latex.
  • pollen from trees, grass and weeds (hay fever)
  • Parental rhinitis.
  • Obesity/being overweight.
  • Elevated exhaled Nitric oxide.
  • High total serum Ige.
  • Exposure to parental smoking.
  • Exposure to pets.
  • Allergic sensitization to common household aeroallergens.
  • The presence of other allergic diseases such as asthma, eczema.
  • wear wraparound sunglasses to protect your eyes from pollen.
  • dust with a damp cloth and use a vacuum with a HEPA filter.
  • wash pets at least once every 2 weeks and groom them outside regularly.
  • use hypoallergenic bedding and covers, and wash bedding regularly at 60C and above.

How is it treated?

Treatment for acute myeloid leukemia is vital. It varies with the patient and stage of the disease. Treatment options include

Oral medications including antihistamines (both prescription and over-the-counter), decongestants, leukotriene antagonists. Immunotherapy (allergy shots or under-the-tongue tablets) is an option for people with severe allergies. Acupuncture may be helpful for some people. Surgery is rarely needed for allergic rhinitis.
