What is Amenorrhea?

Amenorrhea is defined as the absence of menstruation during the reproductive years of a woman's life. Physiological states of amenorrhea are seen, most commonly during pregnancy and lactation (breastfeeding). It can be classified as primary and secondary amenorrhea.

  • Hair loss.
  • Headache.
  • Vision changes.
  • Excess facial hair.
  • Pelvic pain.
  • Acne
  • Milky nipple discharge.
  • Pelvic pain.
  • Psychological stress.
  • Osteoporosis and cardiovascular disease.
  • Infertility and problems with pregnancy. If you don't ovulate and don't have menstrual periods, you can't become pregnant.
  • excessive exercise or intense athletic training.
  • low body weight and poor nutrition – for example eating disorders such as anorexia nervosa.
  • severe anxiety and depression.
  • medications such as antipsychotics.
  • some oral contraceptives or intrauterine devices (IUDs)
  • polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS)

If you have an eating disorder, such as anorexia or bulimia, you are at higher risk of developing amenorrhea. Athletic training. Rigorous athletic training can increase your risk of amenorrhea. History of certain gynecologic procedures.

It is hard to prevent amenorrhea. Try to maintain a healthy diet and exercise plan. If you are underweight or overweight, talk to your doctor about how to find a balance. Once you begin to menstruate, keep track of your periods each month
