The NICU is a specialized unit in the hospital dedicated to the care of premature and critically ill newborns. It provides advanced medical care and monitoring for babies who require special attention.
Babies are admitted to the NICU if they are born prematurely (before 37 weeks), have low birth weight, or have medical conditions that require specialized care. Common reasons include respiratory distress, jaundice, or infection.
Parents can expect a supportive and caring environment. They can visit their baby in the NICU, participate in their care, and receive guidance from the medical team. Our goal is to help parents bond with their baby while ensuring the best care.
KMC is a method of holding and caring for premature infants skin-to-skin on the mother's chest. It provides warmth, comfort, and promotes bonding while stabilizing the baby's vital signs and improving overall health.
The NICU performs various procedures, including mechanical ventilation, central line placement, exchange transfusions, phototherapy, and more. These procedures are tailored to each baby's specific needs.
Neonatologists are specialized doctors who provide medical care to newborns in the NICU. The medical team also includes nurses, respiratory therapists, and other professionals who work together to ensure the well-being of your baby.
Parents are encouraged to be involved in their baby's care by spending time with them, providing kangaroo care, and learning about their baby's progress. Our team will educate and support you every step of the way.
Neonatal transport services are used to safely transfer babies from one facility to another when specialized care is needed. This service ensures that babies receive the care they require, regardless of their location.
Human milk banks provide pasteurised donated breast milk to premature and medically fragile infants. Breast milk is rich in essential nutrients and antibodies that support the health and growth of babies in the NICU.
Our team will guide you through the transition process. You will receive education on your baby's care, feeding, and follow-up appointments, ensuring a smooth transition home.
