Utilizing the most advanced techniques in molecular biology, this laboratory plays a crucial role in the early detection, diagnosis, and monitoring of infectious diseases encompassing multiplex panels like Tropical Fever, Transplant, Influenza, Encephalitis, viral load of targets like HBV, HCV, CMV, BK; early detection of viral targets like HPV with genotyping, Dengue, Chikungunya, COVID-19, H1N1; immunological markers (ELISA), autoantibody detection, amongst numerous others. The laboratory is also dedicated to conduct advanced medical research that spans a wide spectrum of disciplines and promoting interdisciplinary collaboration. Researchers from diverse backgrounds come together to pool their expertise and address complex healthcare issues holistically, by using high end molecular techniques like PCR, Gel Electrophoresis, and Gel Doc system, RT-PCR, Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) and other techniques like Immunofluorescence microscopy, ELISA etc.

The facility ensures strict adherence to ethical guidelines and regulatory standards for all research activities, safeguarding the welfare of research participants and upholding the integrity of scientific inquiry.

Genetic Lab

Advanced Centre for Medical Genetics (ACMG) is a highly-specialized genetic diagnostic laboratory based at the Mahatma Gandhi Medical College and Hospital. The laboratory inaugurated on the DNA Day, i.e., 25th of April in the year 2022. This is the first genetic wet-lab in the state of Rajasthan, which allows all the samples to be processed in-house. The service is not outsourced elsewhere. The main purpose of this laboratory is to provide early diagnosis to the patients. Therefore, our turnaround time (TAT) is very less. We specialize in Oncology and Fetal medicine related genetic testing.

It is the first medical college affiliated clinical laboratory to attain the National Accreditation Board for Testing and Calibration Laboratories (NABL) accreditation in the state of Rajasthan, providing diagnostic solutions across routine, subspecialty, and super-speciality domains such as Oncology, Neurology, Gynaecology, Nephrology, and more. Additionally, it houses a dedicated molecular laboratory equipped with the latest and most advanced techniques. On average, the Central Laboratory processes more than 10,000 investigations daily. As part of a tertiary care, super-speciality hospital with a dedicated organ transplant programme, the Central Lab offers a comprehensive range of investigations, including tumour markers, hormones, drug assays (including tacrolimus, cyclosporin, methotrexate), and those essential for managing post-surgical and critically ill patients. Specialised investigations encompass HLA, flow cytometry, frozen section, and point-of-care testing.

The Primary Segments of the Central Laboratory

Comprise Clinical Biochemistry, which is furnished with cutting-edge fusion analysers that conduct biochemical tests utilising dry chemistry, wet chemistry, and enhanced chemiluminescence. Additionally, equipment such as enzyme-linked fluorescence and high-performance liquid chromatography is installed for processing diverse biochemical investigations. Similarly, the Haematology & Clinical Pathology divisions are adequately equipped with five-part cell counters, an automated coagulometer, and automated urine analysers. The Microbiology section is also outfitted with a chemiluminescent analyser for detecting various antibody levels, an automated ELISA reader, and a Vitek analyser for bacteriology.

Along with the diagnostic support to the patients at MGMCH, our Central Lab extends support to all university students and research scholars. They can conduct their research for various ICMR projects, clinical trials, PhD research projects and PG thesis dissertations across the university. The Lab offers internship/ short-term projects/ hands on trainings for students of various programs of the University and other institutions as well.
