What is Coronary Endarterectomy?

Coronary Eendarterectomy is a procedure that was commonly used to treat coronary heart disease before coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG surgery) became the recommended treatment. Coronary endarterectomy is still performed as an adjunct to CABG on certain high-risk patients.

It's therefore important to get immediate medical advice if you experience symptoms such as:
  • Speech Problems.
  • Loss of vision in 1 eye.
  • Numbness or weakness in your face, arm or leg.
Postoperative Outcomes All Patients (N = 112)
Postoperative myocardial infarction, n (%) 4 (3.6)
Myocardial infarction due to CEA-graft failure, n 2
Stroke, n (%) 2 (1.8)
Low cardiac output syndrome, n (%) 5 (4.5)
  • Older age.
  • Advanced coronary artery disease.
  • Conditions that complicate heart disease such as: Diabetes. Hyperlipidemia.

Moreover, DM, hyper- tension, prior myocardial infarction, peripheral vascular disease and renal failure were more common in the patients who had CE + CABG, but these factors may not necessarily increase the mortality risk of patients who have CE.

Coronary Endarterectomy (CE) assures complete revascularization of the myocardium in case of diffusely diseased vessels and prevents residual ischemia.
