What is Hypertension?

Hypertension (high blood pressure) is when the pressure in your blood vessels is too high (140/90 mmHg or higher). It is common but can be serious if not treated

  • chest pain.

  • Water pills (diuretics). These drugs help remove sodium and water from the body.
  • Angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitors. These drugs help relax blood vessels.
  • Angiotensin II receptor blockers (ARBs).
  • Calcium channel blockers.

How is it treated?

Treatment for acute myeloid leukemia is vital. It varies with the patient and stage of the disease. Treatment options include

  • Ambulatory monitoring. A longer blood pressure monitoring test may be done to check blood pressure at regular times over six or 24 hours.
  • Lab tests. Blood and urine tests are done to check for conditions that can cause or worsen high blood pressure.
  • Electrocardiogram (ECG or EKG).
  • Echocardiogram.
