What is Stroke Prevention?

Blood pressure, blood-sugar and cholesterol levels should be checked regularly, with associated conditions managed in consultation with a health care provider. These simple but effective habits can help prevent brain stroke and other noncommunicable diseases such as heart disease and diabetes

The observation that atherosclerosis of the ascending aorta is a major determinant of stroke after CABG has led some investigators to advocate the use of off-pump CABG to reduce surgical manipulation of the aorta.

Complications that can happen after endovascular aneurysm repair include leaking of blood around the graft, the graft moving away from its initial placement and the stent breaking. Complications that are rare but serious include paralysis, delayed rupture of the aneurysm or infection. Other risks may be possible.

Cerebral embolism is by far the most common cause of peri-operative stroke accounting for 50–75 % of cases. Cerebral emboli arise from either the ascending aorta during surgical manipulation or from the heart due to atrial fibrillation.

Stroke is a devastating complication of endovascular repair of the aortic arch, and is an inherent risk due to several factors including coverage and revascularization of the aortic arch branch vessels, wire and catheter manipulation within an often atherosclerotic aortic arch, and increased complexity of procedures.

Two procedures that can help reduce the risk of stroke are carotid endarterectomy and carotid artery stenting. Endarterectomy is more common than stenting. Carotid is surgery to remove plaque buildup from a carotid artery.

How is it diagnosed?

How is it diagnosed?

WILLIS® Intracranial Stent Graft SystemThe immediate blood flow reconstruction can effectively isolate the blood flow between the aneurysm and the parent artery, while still keeping the blood flow to the parent artery unobstructed.

How is it treated?

Treatment for acute myeloid leukemia is vital. It varies with the patient and stage of the disease. Treatment options include

  • Lower blood pressure. High blood pressure is a huge factor, doubling or even quadrupling your stroke risk if it is not controlled.
  • Lose weight.
  • Exercise more.
  • If you drink — do it in moderation.
  • Treat atrial fibrillation.
  • Treat diabetes.
  • Quit smoking.
