What is Varicose Veins?

Varicose veins, or varicosities, are swollen, twisted veins that lie just under the skin. They usually occur in the legs. Sometimes varicose veins form in other parts of the body. Hemorrhoids , for example, are a type of varicose vein that develops in the rectum.

  • Bulging, bluish veins.
  • Itching or burning discomfort around the veins.
  • Skin color changes around the veins.
  • Swelling in the legs.
  • Aching pain in the legs.
  • A feeling of heaviness in the legs and feet.
  • Nighttime leg cramps.

Severe varicose veins may eventually produce long-term mild swelling that can result in more serious skin and tissue problems. These include ulcers and nonhealing sores. The symptoms of varicose veins may resemble other medical conditions or problems. Always talk with your healthcare provider for a diagnosis.

Varicose veins are a common condition caused by weak or damaged vein walls and valves. Veins have one-way valves inside them that open and close to keep blood flowing toward the heart. Weak or damaged valves or walls in the veins can cause blood to pool and even flow backward.

Don't wear tight clothes around your waist, legs or groin because these garments can reduce blood flow. Raise the legs. To improve the blood flow in the legs, take several short breaks daily to raise the legs above the level of the heart. For example, lie down with the legs resting on three or four pillows.

Treatment for acute myeloid leukemia is vital. It varies with the patient and stage of the disease. Treatment options include

A tiny laser is passed through the catheter and positioned at the top of your varicose vein. The laser delivers short bursts of energy that heat up the vein and seal it closed. The laser is slowly pulled along the vein using the ultrasound scan to guide it, allowing the entire length of the vein to be closed.
