The Department of Neurology at Mahatma Gandhi Hospital was set up 9 years ago under the leadership of Dr. R. K. Sureka. In the past years, there have been tremendous changes in the fields of neuroscience and genetics. These changes include vast technological advances in treatment and insights into molecular and cellular pathogenesis of neurological disease. At the Mahatma Gandhi Hospital, we provide the comprehensive neurological care with technical advancement.

The scope of this Department includes investigations and treatment of diseases involving central and peripheral nervous system. The Department provides treatment for various outpatient (headache, stroke, Parkinsonism and movement disorders, epilepsy and dementia) and inpatient ailments (Neuro-infections, refractory epilepsy, stroke, Neuro-muscular disorders along with ICU and HDU care).

Neuro-rehabilitation Department is under the reformation to give the holistic care to the patients suffering from neurological illness. Aim of the Neuro-rehabilitation is to minimize the disability of the patients, so that they can live productive life in the society.

Neurophysiologic investigations like EEG, Video EEG, Video EEG monitoring electromyography, nerve conduction studies and evoked potentials are available at our centre with accurate reports and reasonable rates. The Neuro-radiological facilities include MRI scan (1.5 & 3 T) with MR angiography and spiral CT scan (64 & 128 slices).

Department has also been performing various Diagnostic and therapeutic Neuro-interventions including Diagnostic cerebral angiography. Recent treatment modalities like Thrombolytic therapy and other neuro thrombectomy interventions like Colling of cerebral aneurysm for stroke patients and Botulinum toxin therapy for focal dystonia are also available in the center.

The Department of Neurology has also been recognized by NMC for DM training in Neurology (5 seats per year).
